Decorating the Laundry Room - Finally!

For this week's "metamorphosis" I have just edited a previous entry on the decorating of our laundry room! Over the weekend we found the perfect additon to finish the decorating of the laundry room - a chandelier.  So here are pics of the final touch to our "formal laundry room" (that is what my husband is calling it).

We found the fixture at a flea market "the light lady" vendor - had over a thousand different types, styles & colors to choose from.
The area we had to work with would only allow a 15" x 15" light fixture so we were limited with the size.
The reflections of the light is so awesome!  Chose the fixture with the blue crystals to pull that color from the wallpaper border.
This is an elegant touch for our little laundry room - I absolutely love it....

PREVIOUSLY POSTED:
We have been in our house for a year and a half and I had an image of what I wanted to do with the laundry room since our move.  Wanted to have an old fashioned clothesline border or mural on one of the walls.  Priced the wallpaper border at several different places but what I liked was way more money then I wanted to spend.  So with patience and being a frequent visitor at thrift stores - I finally was able to purchase the border wallpaper that I wanted in the colors that I wanted for a whopping $.70 for 15 feet - which is a little more than I needed.  Here are the before pics......

My husband moved the washer; dryer for me so I could paint behind them...
and now after painting.....

and now the wallpaper border installed...

wanted to show off the corner and how well I matched it up.  Was soo proud of myself for my first time hanging wallpaper....
To complete the laundry room I needed to decorate the top of the cabinets because it always seemed unfinished with no crown molding and just empty space.  So I took some of my more treasured items and placed them up there to finish it off...

...here are pics after the washer and dryer were moved back...

Well I am so delighted with the final product. I will enjoy this room even more

Front porch lantern project

So today's project was a simple one.  We spend alot of time on our front (and back) porch(es).  So I wanted to add some ambiance to our front porch.  These are the before pics.....
This is the right & left columns as you are facing the front of the house.

These are the lanterns I bought at a garage sale for $1 (for the pair).  I needed them to be black to match the rest of the exterior light fixtures and the hanging bracket as well.  They were silver so I taped the glass and painted them black.

Then my wonderful husband drilled the holes and hung the brackets for me.

and this is what they look like hanging, with candles lit inside of them..

What a differenc this little addition makes for our cozy little front porch.

A close up of the lantern and hanging bracket.

33rd Tablescape - Depression Glass Recollection

This is absolutely my favorite tablescape.  This is "recollection depression glass".  For information on the set and the cost see my blog entry "Thrift Purchase - Depression Glass".  Apologizing in advance for all the pictures - given the beautiful detail of the dishes they deserved to be shown off!!!
The finished table above....how it all came together starts below....
Using white fringed placemats and a white lace table runner in trying to keep with the "depression" vintage look.

Here I have set the plate on a charger in order to show the detail of the dishes.
Here is the complete set, dinner plate, desert plate, bowl & goblet.

The tea cup & saucer & a dainty little tea towel.
A lace napkin with a flattened spoon end napkin ring.
The overview again... see to the left is a pedestooled candy dish that matches the set.
Center is the matching salt & pepper shakers
The far right rear of the table is the creamer and sugar bowl.
Candles are lit!  The reflection from the crystal and candles is beautiful.

Thrift purchase 08/15/10 - Depression Glass

This purchase has to be the best one I have made in a long time.....(of course there will be others I am sure).  This is a set of "Recollection Depression Glass" it is absolutely beautiful.  Clear has always been my favorite and square dishes are so unique so the combination of the two in one set is amazing.

This is a relish plate - I set it on a black charger to show the detail of the raised etching.

The sugar bowl and creamer

Salt & pepper shakers

Pedestol covered candy dish was still in the box.

The goblets too were in the box...

The entire set, 32 pcs were $30.00 - I had a $10 off coupon so final cost was $20...which comes out to .62 each piece!
(Note: This is recollection Depression was made by Indiana Glass from molds purchased from Federal Glass in 1982)
